Gavin Shumate, MD, FACOG

Dr. Shumate is a board-certified OB/GYN with more than 17 years’ experience, who has lived and worked in Newport since 2011. He graduated magna cum laude from California State University, Stanislaus, receiving numerous scholarships and academic honors while completing a B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. He attended New York Medical College and was honored with the Sanford Sall, M.D., Award in Obstetrics & Gynecology upon graduating in 2003. He completed his residency in New Orleans, LA, at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in 2007, the recipient of multiple awards and commendations for both clinical research and patient care. He served as the co-chief resident from 2006-2007.

Following completion of his residency, Dr. Shumate practiced as an OB/GYN for 4 years in Seattle before relocating to the Oregon Coast. He has been board certified since 2011. He was employed by Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital from 2011 to 2020, serving as Chair of the Surgical Services Committee (2014), Chair of the Obstetrics & Pediatrics Committee (2015), and as a member of the Medical Executive Credentials Committee (2014-2016). In 2012, he founded the first annual Newport Women's Cancer Screening in partnership with the Women's Cancer Coalition. Also in 2012, he was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology by the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, Western University of Health Sciences. He was recognized for excellence in patient care with the Shining Star Award in 2016. 

Dr. Shumate is dedicated to the health and well-being of his patients, addressing their concerns and partnering with them to maintain their own health and well-being. He has dedicated himself to providing exceptional, compassionate, respectful care.

He is a known activist and advocate of the LGBTQIA+ community, serving as the chair of the Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Committee of the Newport Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, and as an advisor to the Bravery Center, a resource for the LGBTQIA2S+ community of Lincoln County.

Jennifer Ledbury, NCMA

Jennifer is a Nationally Certified Medical Assistant with nearly 17 years of experience here amongst our Lincoln County coastal clinics.  She also spent 8 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and has resided in Lincoln County since 2001.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, catching up with friends, reading, hiking, kayaking and quietly walking the beach in search of the hidden sand dollar.

Jennifer is a caregiver by nature. She says, “It really warms my heart to have this opportunity to work alongside such a wonderful doctor, just doing what we love.”

Ruth Green

Ruth is the newest member of the team, but don’t let that fool you!

Ruth Green is a young, transgender woman with a passion for helping people. She loves outdoor activities, cooking, and gardening. She has been living in the coast area for 5 years, and has been with her partner since 2016. After leaving a career in plumbing, she has decided to return to college for her degree. She is very excited to continue to get to know the local community, and to help it grow in diversity and understanding.
